Project description
The EFGISP Phase-2 infrastructure projects align with the Somali government’s efforts to build effective and efficient institutions, will cover support for reforms in public financial management, and strengthen policy planning and implementation capacities.
Ecotech was thrilled to be awarded the architectural and engineering consultancy contract by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and its implementing partner the Ministry of Finance FG of Somalia. The proposed Taxation Training Institute design is not merely a backdrop and support to create the typical necessities for educational habitation, but an active participant in the learning process.
The learning environment plays an important role and dramatically influences the development of the mind of a person. There can be no question that the built environment is ripe with stimuli for the proper development of a successful individual.
The objective of such a project is to facilitate the empowerment of taxation students into professionals, armed with real-world skills to get the job done in the taxation arena. Bold parapets concealing the roof cover have been used generously on the façades of the school’s building, both to beautify and invoke a sense of institutional authority. The angular orientation of the front segment of the school-block is a unique departure from conventional (bland) design. It stimulates the user’s imagination while also serving the functional purpose of providing a planted courtyard.
Corridors have been added to the frontages of the building to provide shaded, controlled and secure access to the classrooms. In addition to providing paving around the building, sidewalks and parking; a dedicated boardwalk has been included to steer student traffic to a definite and central entrance. This further invokes order and formality by segregating circulation of dissimilar occupants, i.e. the crowded student population is apart from the public’s access into the Public Foyer.
